    I can't believe these things

I posted on 9/9/07 about two mouse fuzzies we had left over from a feeding. We got them some KMR and fed them some via drops on our fingers last night. We checked on them this morning and they are still allive. This is day three! Temperature in the room ranges from 75 to 81 at all times and humidity stays around 50%. They are growing more fur and are almost completely white on top. Their eyes are still closed. We hope to keep them alive for a few more days and feed them to Sadis, our female ball python next feeding day (Saturday). Any chance of this?

There is always a chance but it is unlikely they are getting anywhere near the nutrients and food they need for the little bits of KMR they are lapping up.

Any chance of feeding early? If she will take them now just skip Saturday and then get back on schedule the week after.

She had two fuzzies on Saturday and defecated from her previous week's mean (hopper) last night. We keep trying to feed Xefaud, the small male but he refuses to eat. He has not defecated from his previous meal (hopper) a week and a half ago.

I just looked it up. I estimate them to be 7-8 days old.

You are feeding mouse fuzzies to a Ball python??? That seems way too small of a meal to me. I feed 16g green tree python babies mouse fuzzies.

yea hatchling ball pythons could pound hoppers right out of the egg.

and just to let you know snakes don't "defecate" on a weekly basis often. sometimes they can go months with out leaving a present. so i wouldn't determine feeding times by when they poo. you should keep a regular feeding schedule of every 7-10 days.

Could, or should? I know they could, but hoppers are so darn hyper I think they might be difficult prey for a hatchling BP's first meal. When I brought home bones, the extremely emaciated juvenile I just rescued, he didn't have the strength to go after a hopper, so I got 2 fuzzies instead.. They don't move around much, so they made an easy target for him. The next week though, it was an adult mouse and he took it down with ease.

Re: I can't believe these things

well in the wild fuzzy mice aren't gonna be out roaming around for a ball python to snatch up. hoppers on the other hand can venture off and thats when they get nailed. if it happens in nature it can happen in my rack.

rat snakes, like corns, go out looking for there food, so they would come across a nest of little pinks and have a buffet. balls being ambush predators lay and wait for there meal on wheels.

I am well aware that mouse fuzzies are a small meal for a ball python. My ball pythons eat hoppers normally but the store was out of live hoppers (the snakes won't take f/t right now) so we got four live fuzzies. Two went to our female and two were supposed to go to our male, but he didn't eat.

Well one of the fuzzies died so we put it in the freezer for later. The other one we offered to Sadis but she wasn't interested. I brought the fuzzy to my house and gave it to my corn snake who is always up for a snack.

How big is your snake? Even hopper mice are pretty small except for the first couple meals.
