    Any Drum Corps fans?

Wondering if there are any drum corps fans/performers here? I marched Blue Knights in '01 and Boston Crusaders '03-04; on the rifle line for both groups all three years. Anyone else?

    Re: Any Drum Corps fans?

I was such a drum corp nerd. I was going to audition, but my mom wouldn't let me go after hearing about shenanigans. (I think that she was right to do that, judging from the stories some friends brought back.) It's probably part of the reason I ended up playing in the Army.

I still follow it a bit, and would love to go to competitions. I went to one before my daughter was born in Wyoming, but that was the last one.

If you torrent, you can find really, REALLY old corp tapes. Pretty fun to see how things have evolved.

That is AWEsome!! I hadn't paid much attention to the Corps since my own marching days over 20 years ago (never was in a Corps...just liked watching them). But now my daughter is in marching band and we watched the '07 Championship that took place at the Rose Bowl. (On cable...not in person...I wish!!) One of Petra's band directors...Mr. Hull...worked with the Caveliers this past year, but I'm not sure in what capacity. So now she's all about the Corps and looking up every video clip she can find online.

If you know of anyplace to order DVD's of performances, we'd jump on 'em in a heartbeat.

Petra posts here occasionally as "Dragon_Lova"....I'll be sure to point her to this thread when she gets a chance to sign on!

Haha! I remember whenever I came home it's all I could talk about for a couple of months. I know where he's coming from.

Yeah, some crazy things definately happen. As they say "What happens on tour, stays on tour!" But it also makes for some amazing memories.

You and your daughter should go to a show. Every summer the first big competition of the season, that has all the corps there, is held in San Antonio at the Alamo Dome (or whatever its called now). They have a pre-lims in the morning and then the evening performance is the top 12 corps - very similar to the way finals is. Plus being in the alamo dome it's air conditioned so you don't have to sit out in the TX heat!

As for ordering, you can order DVDs from www.dci.org - but they're pretty expensive. You can also look there for show information.

    Re: Any Drum Corps fans?

I would love to be in a corp!! I was in marching band in high school (I was in guard) and we got to use rifles one year. It was the coolest thing we did the entire time I marched. I loved them. The guy that taught us our show the year we had rifles asked me to come out for his corp that he was part of, but I had to have a job and wouldn't have been able to travel like they needed to. And my youth pastor in high school was in the corps for a long time. He's got some crazy stories!! I love to watch any of that stuff that I can...

You should definately go. It's such an awesome experience, you and your daughter will have a blast. But I'm warning you now; she'll probably nag you to go let her march somewhere after seeing it first hand!

Awesome! I, too, was in the guard when I marched corps; on the rifle line. It is a lot of fun to spin. You could always march a Div II or III corps, their tour schedule isn't nearly as rigorous as a Div I corps.

Hah! She already is! She's only 14 though, and in her first ever marching experience as a freshman. Performed in her first game this last Friday. So we have awhile to wait and see if the desire will "stick." If it does though....I'm open to at least checking into possibilities....

I love drum corps...anytime I hear a marching band, makes me want to march. I was a high school band geek and our school always did well at the state championships...
