    ants....

i wasnt sure where to post this so i'll put it here.

well my room suddenyl got an ant infestation and they're all over my room so im wondering what i can do to get rid of them without causing problems with my snakes, tarantulas, and centipedes. im guessing most likely i'll have to use ant-killer sprays and move the critters out of my room? oh the ants are in the house but quite a lot are in my room.

    Re: ants....

I had this same exact problem when I had a fish tank and am having it now with gliders. I would say try following them and see where they lead you. They might lead you to the nest and that is where you want to get them with spray or something simliar. When I had ant problems when I had a fish tank we just set up small ant traps around the room and kept all manner of food out of the room. I maybe see one ant every now and then in my room but its a lot better than the dozens swarming my fish tank.

With my gliders, I think my grandmother ended up spraying where the ants were grouping together in larger numbers. I didn't see any ants this morning but I will be keeping an eye out.

If it is a house-wide infestation, I would probably get a professional exterminator to help you.

    Re: ants....

You have to bait ants...the only way to kill the colony is to kill the queen. Yes, spray will kill the few you see but not the hundreds you don't see (yet). I suggest you follow their trail and put ant traps down. They will take the poison back to the colony and kill them all off. This is also the least risky to your animals. ANY spray will kill your T's so be very careful if someone is spraying around them...even in attached room.

    Re: ants....

We used to get ants real bad in our kitchen over the summers. What we did to get rid of them was to get some outdoor bug killer granules (my husband got it and spread it out so I am not sure what is is called) but you spread it out on the lawn and then use a hose to get it wet. I would concentrate it near the edges of the house (you can get this at Lowes or Home Depot maybe even Walmart where they keep all the outdoor bug control). I would also go with some of the ant traps. We used the ones that have the poison stuff in it that they bring back to their colony where they eat it and the ants die. And just make sure that everything is kept real clean and no food lying about anywhere. We haven't seen ants in our house for the last 2 years now.

    Re: ants....

Good old ant traps always work for us. Usually about 7 days after you set them out, it's goodbye ants. Remember to replace them all every 30 days (but they are cheap as dirt really).
