    male vs female?

okay... pastelxspider=bumblebee. is it better to have the pastel as a female and the spider as a male or should it be the other way around. I see varous opinions on this and was curious... is it better to have a female morph for certain combos or the male or does it not really matter.

example. I am getting a male pastel. I want to get a female spider and a female cinny. This will still give me the results that I want wont it?

I hope I'm getting my thought across clearly as I am not getting much sleep these days, so things tend to sound better in my head.

    Re: male vs female?

I think in the end it depends on how many of which combo's you would want to make. I think that pastels and spiders are both awesome base morphs, since you can do so much with them. If you want to do a lot of the spider combo's, I would say get a male spider so you could breed him around with multpile females of different morphs to produce the designer morphs faster. I think it really depends on what you want to end up breeding. If it was me, I'm going to get a spider female, because I already have a pastel male (as well as a normal female). One of the projects that I would like to work on would be the pewter bee, or even a super pewter bee, so I would also need to get a female cinny. I'm interested to see how the pattern/coloring would differ from an axanthic/ killer axanthic bee.

I'll be getting the same.. have the pastel male on a payment plan and then will get a female spider and cinny. It'll be interesting to see what we end up producing when we get our snakes to breeding age.

    Re: male vs female?

So far no proven sex linked ball python mutations so it shouldn't mater from genetic standpoint which gender is which when going for combos.

Sounds like you have a good plan to make both pewter and bumblebee with only three snakes. In your case pastel is the most in demand morph (since needed for both combos) so good to have your male pastel. Although you might want to raise up any pastel daughters you get along the way as those might come in handy later too.

I figure it will be a cheaper route to get a male spider and a female pastel to get the same results, so thats what im doing. Actually im going tonight to go pick up them.

    Re: male vs female?

If all you are shooting for is bumblebee (a worthy target) it might be slightly cheaper to go with a pastel male and a female spider. I think the spiders are pretty close to the same for both genders but the male pastel should be a fair % cheaper than a female pastel. But then the female pastel might be more valuable later (for making killer bee without having to raise up another female for example), which is probably why they are more expensive.

    Re: male vs female?

i picked up a male pastel and female spider, which was cheaper then a male spider female pastel. this way i can work on bees first, then hold back a female pastel/male spider, and work from there.

    Re: male vs female?

Sounds like a good plan to make bumbles and pewters. the only thing is you should have gotten the females first since it will takes years for them to mature to breeding size and the male can breed in many cases in under or at a year. the way you are going your wait will be way longer before you are doing any breeding
