maintaining ambient air temps in large enclosures?
Hey all:
I am moving my BP to a large 5' x 2' x 2' acrylic tank. It used to house bearded dragons, see below. It has a lid to match which I will modify to suit my needs.
My question is about an ambient air heat source.
I have Under Tank heaters but the ambient air is a concern of course in an enclosure this large.
How would y'all go about maintaining ambient air temps? What source would you choose for heat. I can monitor temps, no problem but I'm thinking a ceramic heat source from above is the best way to go to actually get the ambient air to about 84 degrees.
I'd appreciate your opinions.
Thanks!

Yes, as I say in line 2 above, it has a lid to match which I will modify to suit my needs.

I would go to here. The Radiant heat panels don't burn your snake, and it mounts on top of your tank, its safe, but a little pricey... just my
Hope this helps!

EDIT: Nice beardies BTW

Well, heat the room as much as you can so that you don't have to worry about a lot of swing.
Secondly I've been considering trying out a combination of a dark flourescent bulb on either my herpstat if it will work with current sensors or my rheostat and put it above the small screen we have on our large PVC one. It's a pain because it stays whatever temperature the room is, the PVC one is.
That and it needs some safety modifications because I have worlds craziest stunt bp

Re: maintaining ambient air temps in large enclosures?
Radiant heat panels are the best options for large scale heating.
BUT...I personally wouldn't put a ball into that size enclosure. Ball's are very shy and even the largest would be overwhelemed to be living in an aquarium that is open on all sides. Unless you are planning on going nuts with tons of hides and decor (which you will have to maintain and clean all the time - yuck) and which will mean you will never see him anyway I am not sure why you would put him in there?
Maybe another lizard or different snake that is more comfortable in a large enclosure?
