Anyone with experience with these... what type of heating should I get. Back heat or belly heat? I heard they use back heat and they "say" it's better than belly heat. Also, they offer 80 watt flexwatt and recommend it for rooms that may be below 74 degrees. During the winter, it will definitely be in the 70s from time to time.

Is it MANDATORY that I get the 80 watt, or can I get the 40 watt standard and just rely on my helix backed up by a ranco. I'm not entirely sure.

I have 8 of these racks. I love them. They all have belly heat. I have a tempeture controlled room for the snakes, The ambient temp stays at 83. I use the common 40 watt flex with helix therms..I usually get 83 on the cool side and 92 on the warm side....I wouldn't let the room get that cold in the winter unless you rig up some additional flex for the cool side and run it on another helix...or you can get an oil filled space heater and heat the room up a bit...

well the thing is that, no one is usually in the house during the middle of hte days, so the heat is off in the house. Gas bills can be very expensive in New York. Should I get the 80 watt installment since that's what they recommend for cold rooms?

I understand the expensive gas bills..(I'm in north jersey now..originally from Yonkers NY...) BUT...your snake is always home....You can try the 80 watt..I'm not too familiar with it, but if it has to heat the entire tub, your hot end might be too hot inorder to sufficiently heat the cooler end....

Does the flexwatt run on the inner part of the rack? I was planning on using a divider that they have for options, and put two small pythons in one tub.

It runs across the back. I use the dividers also..They are great!

would it be possible if I just placed maybe a bath towel to cover the front on the cold cold days of NY, so it may hold in some heat?

I think that would work, and I can just get the regular 40watt flexwatt

That might work, but would cut down on their fresh air flow...

well since all the tubs now have their own flexwatt, I may just double up on the flexwatt during the winter time, and that should work like a charm. Thanks for helpin me figure it out =)
