    Brand new to Snakes..Canada anyone?

Hey all!! I am sooooooooo freaking happy to have found this forum! I've just started as of today to find my daughter a ball python as a pet but in reading the 20 million pages of information out there my interest has be piqued for these amazing animals. I've been a dog breeder for 30 something years and have always had an interest in animal husbandry so looking at all the genetic stuff on the ball pythons has been wonderful fun and amazingly interesting! Anyway, I'd like to hook up with others in Canada and learn more about these animals before I actually go out and buy one. I LOVE the pieds...omg they are amazing and I think I'd like to breed them but of course want to learn a lot more first before jumping into that endeavor. We would however like to purchase a nice 2006/2007 baby to start out with and color is immaterial as this will be the daughters pet...she likes them all. She's so good with reptiles and is very unhappy right now as her bearded dragon just died of what we think is maybe cancer (he had a big lump in his stomach and went downhill really fast...like within a week he'd stopped eating/drinking/moving) So her room is reptile free right now and she's NOT happy about that. Anyway, would love to meet/talk with others in Canada that breed ball pythons...if you're out there let me know ok? I have sent an email to 2 breeders and hope to hear back from them. *s* ttys all!!

    Welcome!

Quite a few of our members are Canuks, or formers. Aleesha, Recycling Goddess is one, and if memory serves... Joanna, Frankykeno used to live there. (But about her, I'm not certain...Sorry Jo!)

Glad to have another new member to our happy family.

Take a gander at the caresheets and the stickies for setting up tanks or tubs for homes. They'll be great help for getting things already and stabilized for the new arrival once you've chosen one.

I live in Canada, I know of a breeder, Markus Jayne Pythons. www.ballpython.ca I've heard good things, you should give them a try.

Yep I'm Canadian born! Welcome to BPNet. Do check out Markus Jayne's website. It's an incredibly informative and well laid out site to understand genetics in a basic way. Once you are ready for more, grab a cup of coffee, a pad of paper and a pencil and have fun learning more about genetics and the punnet square than you'll ever think you wanted to know (this stuff is fascinating!).

Because you are thinking to breed at some point you might want to consider either a nice 07 hatched normal female or an 07 hatched het male as your daughter's pet. That way down the road this pet can also contribute to those breeding efforts. If, on the other hand, you want the snake purely as a pet then a nice normal male is a lovely and very cost effective choice.

Enjoy BPNet and please feel free to ask any questions that come up. With proper knowledge and planning plus going through a breeder rather than a pet store, your family is likely to have a wonderful experience with your very first ball python.

Let us know what you end up getting your daughter! Pics are also great.
