    No cage clips

I purchased two baby ball pythons today and got all the stuff for them except cage clips to keep the top on the cage. So I hurried on down to the petstore that sells them and wouldn't you know it, they were completely out. They've put in an order for me, but the clips won't be in until about Tuesday. Will the snakes be ok with just books stacked on top of the tanks?

lol How little is "baby"??? This season's hatchlings? Heavy books should be able to tide you over until you get the clips. Anything from last year or older would be strong enough to escape.

Question: Are both in the same tank? That would be okay if you've got a divider in order to make two separate cages. Just curious.

    Re: No cage clips

No, each snake is housed in its own ten gallon complete with water dish appropriatly (sp) sized for soaking if needed, two dark hides, newspaper, thermometers, and UTH. At the moment we are not using the UTH because the ambient temperature in the room is around 82-85. Using a UTH would only bring the temp up too high. I'm going online next week when I get my paycheck to purchase two thermostats. Since we will be building a rack for the balls in a month or so, they will be good to have.

They are not very big at all. Here is a size reference pic. Comparing to car keys.

If you have any advice, suggestions, comments about anything I'm doing for the snakes, please let me know. I want to care for these snakes right and am very open for advice on husbandry.

    Re: No cage clips

    Hello,
From what you have posted it seems you have just about everything. Do you have a hygrometer, to measure the humidity? Just something I noticed wasn't on your list. Just keep an eye on the temps until you get your thermostats, and keep an eye on your humidity as well. If there is a lot of open space in your tank, you might want to run to the dollar store/Walmart and get some fake plants to put in there or wad up some newspaper just to take up some room so that your new babies will feel secure in their homes. Good luck with the new babies!!! And I saw their pics on your other post....Beautiful snakes!!!!

    Re: No cage clips

What I usually do if I don't have clips, is using packaging tape. Just a little strip on each end of the top pulled down onto the glass, and there is no way the snake can get it loose.

    Re: No cage clips

We'll try the tape. We do have a hydrometer for each tank. Humidity sits at around 45% without misting. Thankyou for all your advice. I'm going to spoil these snakes rotten.
