The reason that they have rules like minimum balances in your Savings acount is that a lot of people open an account and then draw it down to a ZERO balance.

It costs the bank money to manage each account and once the account falls below a certain amount the bank is no longer making money off your money and requires a fee to offset their costs.

As for taking the money out of your savings account to cover a check, they will not do it if it will cause the savings account to fall below the minimum balance. You should be able to find that in the fine print somewhere.

I'm sorry that you had this problem. Perhaps you should get rid of the savings account altogether and just have a checking account. That is what I did for many years when I was in the Army.
Ah thanks. I plan on changing banks when i move anyways. the cu isnt in the town or anywhere near where i plan on moving. I've been looking at the ING as a possible place to store savings and keeping only a checking for quite a while.
