Re: Handling
well i have alot of snakes so i usually only handle 1 or 2 every day. it all depends on the feeding or cleaning schedule. i also have a crestie that likes to come out and play, and some rats to take care of.
i will say when i had only one, he got handled just about everyday minus feeding day and the 48 after feeding.

Re: Handling
This is kind of subjective.... For me it's between 1 or 2 times a week to once every 2 weeks. It also kind of depends on the snake. My boy won't eat for me if I handle him too often.

Re: Handling
When you first get the baby snake you don't handle all that much and not at all the first week as they settle in. You want to work first on making sure they are eating regularily and pooping, shedding, all the good stuff. Handling comes in time and should start out slowly and gently for very short periods of time. Basically just remember handling is a joy and pleasure for you and something you want but not something the snake necessarily needs. Ball pythons are shy and nocturnal so not much as a display type snake.

Re: Handling
I handle my gal every other day for about 10 minutes. She eats on friday around 5. And doesn't get held till sunday after 5. Just my routine.
I just picked up a blood from lillyorchid (allison). He's getting acclimated to his new home. He'll get the same attention. But ill probably alternate holding days between the two.
Blood, ball, blood, ball, etc......

Re: Handling
I try for daily (excepting after feeding and during shedding of course). Now that I have three snakes I try to stick to handling one or two of them a day.
I have a really laid back BP and it doesn't really seem to matter how often I get him out - he's always really docile. I have an adult carpet that I'm still getting to know. He's pretty big and still pretty touchy so I tend to get him out less often. I just handled him tonight after about 3 weeks (shed) and he was very cool so I didn't lose any ground there. My baby corn seems like he has a memory of only a few days. Let's say you pick him up one day and he spazzes out. Each day after that, he'll be really chilled out. But, if I don't handle him for a few days he seems to forget it all. That seems to be getting better as he gets older though.
1.0 Normal BP - "Snakey"
1.0 Jungle carpet python - "Chewbacca" aka "Chewie"
0.1 Olive python - "Cleopatra" aka "Cleo"
0.0.1 Corn - "Husker"
1.0 Veiled Chameleon - "Kermit"

Re: Handling
I hold my 2 year old female Maggie for about 5 to 10 mins a day. Its Funny if I hold her so she is just wraped around she is very active and very alert. But if I hold her in my arms like a baby she will totaly relax and will even fall asleep. Shes as cute as a puppy if you ask me.

Re: Handling
I'll typically hold mine for half hour-hour a day, except 48 hrs after feeding, or when shedding. Most of the time I think she just goes to sleep when I have her out, once shes happily settled in somewhere she doesn't move unless I make her.
