Yea when a public statement is made like the its called slander. And can be brought to court.

Except Imus never said a specific person's name. It was a joke. Comedy. This is ridiculous. I'm sure they've REALLY suffered from this, I mean geez the entire country knows who they are and are portraying them as these poor victims... They never would have even known they were ever mentioned on the broadcast unless the media had blown it out of proportion.

Re: Wow now you can sue people for hurt feelings
it can be brought to court but it is nearly impossible to win that case...
In order to win the prosecution would have to prove that Imus intended to cause harm to the player.
Also the prosecution would have to show that Imus caused actual harm to the reputation of the player, making others believe what was said or think less of them.
People who are in the public eye such as a nationally touring college team would have an even more difficult time winning the case. that's why tabloids usually get away with what they do...
Not that it wasn't wrong... just a hard to win case from a legal standpoint.

This is true in most cases. Unfortunately for Imus it was a racily based as such the courts tend to have less bias decisions when these cases are brought to the courts.

Not everyone thinks they are victims. Players on that team have received many death threats over Imus getting fired.
Do I think it's a legit case? No.

No but you say "those nappy headed hoes" and that is.
Its a derogatory generalization that was founded by a specific racial group. So when its used by some one of another race some people feel that its racially based.
