Off to the vet I go...

Well, today went to take my new RTB out and show her to someone and I heard a funny rattling breathing sound. That and saw snot trails on the side of the tank.So I came here to see if there was a post for rep vets here and thank goodness there is the link that has the different vets by states, (thanks to ever put that up here and found it.) as I thought she has a resp. infection. But the doc says a month of antibiotic shots every three days and she Should be good to go. It was rather funny too, my daughter went with me and thought it was cool to get to see a snake bugger. Call up the store that I got her from and told them that she was sick and the guy was like yeah I know we had one that had it and we gave all of them A shot and it must have been something that was resid. and the stress from being moved made it flare. Bring her in an I'll give her a shot and she should be fine. I said thanks bu t no thanks as she just got one from the Vet and he gave her a Months worth, told him thats what he needs to do with the others and should at least let people know thats whats going on with the snakes in that cage. I told him that he should have at least given me a heads up I still would have gotten her but would have liked to known so I could put her tank away from my others. Well sorry guys just had to vent alittle about some pet shops.

Sorry to hear about your snake, glad you got it checked out and everything sounds like it'll be fine!

Btw, is it okay for you to have multiple RTB's in one tank? I know with BPs that's a no no, just curious?

It's not a good idea. Generally speaking, if one snake is sick, the disease is more likely to have been transmitted to others if they are caged together. Also, if it's something like a regurge, it's nearly impossible to tell which snake did it.
Pet stores often put multiple snakes in a cage in order to conserve housing.

I'd also make sure your temps are ok. Raising the temps a little bit will help with the RI.

The fact that this idiot pet store guy thinks one shot will cure an RI is beyond stupid! Compound that by selling you a snake that he knew was sick and not mentioning it....I'd be more than ticked off personally!

Stick with the routine the vet has given you. Keep this snake warm, quiet and quarantined until it gets a clean bill of health. This is an excellent reason to quarantine all new arrivals even if they appear healthy and to always house seperately.

I'd also consider forwarding a copy of your final vet bill to this store owner and suggesting strongly that he cover it or at least part of it since he knowingly sold you a snake that wasn't healthy nor had it been given proper vet care. If this is a chain store, send another copy with your cover letter to their corporate head office.

Joanna nailed it. Also I include a copy of the sale receipt.
