What do you think prices will be like in a few years?

I'm starting my second year of college soon, and while there have to leave my pets at home (various reptiles and amphibians, including two ball pythons). I live in the US but go to college in Canada, really sucks leaving my babies at home but I have a loooong summer break

Once I'm out of college, and back in the US, I definitely want to get into ball python morphs and breeding. I love my ball pythons to death, they're my favorite snakes, and seeing pictures on this forum and all over the internet just make me drool. I've been browsing kingsnake the past few years and have watched as prices fluctuate, but mostly drop.

I've always wanted an albino, especially a high contrast, and I've seen the prices drop from over $2000 to under $1000 lately. How much more do you think that price will go down within the next few years?

Spiders are another favorite of mine and those seem to be getting more reasonable as well.

Are there any morphs that you think will go up in price? Do you think supply and demand will keep the prices at a certain level, or will some morphs be almost as easy to get as normals? This is all purely speculation but I'd like to hear some opinions

IMO prices will only drop. We will get new morphs from cross breeding morphs that will have high price tags. Eventually they will drop too. Only a few years ago a Pied went for 10k or more. Now you can get them for 3k or less. 10 yrs ago albinos had a huge price tag and you could only get them from a couple breeders. Now as you probably have noticed, everyone has them and you can get them for under 1k.

Re: What do you think prices will be like in a few years?

I think that prices will drop and level off. I do not see prices for more-prevelant morphs sugh-as Pastels and Mojaves sinking to the normal-price, though. Normals are mass-produced and captively hatched/farmed; morphs are not. Even if you spend $600 on a Pastel this year and bred it in 3 years when it matured or so, I do no see you losing money in the long run if you had healthy babies hatch out.
Every day, more people get into this hobby and want lower-priced morphs to start out with. I do not see a vanishing demand for Pastels, spiders, etc.

Re: What do you think prices will be like in a few years?

because ball pythons have a small clutch size, prices for morphs will stay relatively high. i don't ever see prices dropping into corn snake prices, where you can get tons of morphs for under $100. it's all about supply and demand, more people are breeding morphs, so the supply is going up, and more people are getting into the hobby which pushes demand up. so it looks like things will level off.

Re: What do you think prices will be like in a few years?

The next few yrs you'll see a bunch of things level off...

    Pastel males $75 - $150...females $250 - $500
    Lesser males $500-$600....females $800 - $1200

Things of that nature.....your double co dom crosses are going to drop and stabilize....bees going for 1k...yb pastels $850...etc....

If it were me, I would love the prices to stay up....but things happen....

Double recessives and triple co doms are where it is going to be at......get on it!

Actually, i know of some people that are selling pastel males right now for less than you would pay for a normal male from PetCo.

    just sayin.
