The Immaculate Guinea Pig Conception
So...er.. yeah. Sammy my black g.p. girl, is QUITE pregnant. It hadn't been apparent to me until last night, and I hadn't been handling her except to clean the cage. Apparently, Jin is infact not a girl. Sammy is quite knocked up . I think it'll be fun. We had a few g.p. breedings when I lived with my parents, in fact one such pregnancy ended quite tragically, and I had to feed the babies formula with an eyedropper, so I'm prepared for whatever situation could possibly arise. The babies are lots of fun. It's just very unexpected. I'm planning to separate Jin and Sammy tonight, so nothing will happen to the babies if she goes into labor. From the looks of her and how tight her stomach is, it couldn't be more than a couple weeks away. I'll post a picture tonight, if anyone wants to confirm that she's pregnant. The thought occured to me that she could have a tumor, but her belly is evenly large on both sides, so I think pregnancy is more likely.

Re: The Immaculate Guinea Pig Conception
sounds like she is pregnant. I've had guinea pigs for years now and last winter I rescued a staved one who turned out to be pregnant. It was neat but sad. Sadly she had one still born and one came out who wasn't able to move at all who I had to put down. I'm thankful she made it but yeah thre aren't always happy ending when it comes to breeding.
I wish you and your girl luck!

Re: The Immaculate Guinea Pig Conception
Thanks! I'll post pics of the little fatty tonight. I'm very hopeful that the babies will be alright.. and Sammy too. The incident I spoke of in the first post ended in the mother g.p. dying as a result of the birth. I believe she was too old to be bred for the first time, and she was pregnant when I bought her.

You *are* going to post pix of the babies too right?
I've always wanted a Guinea Pig or a chinchella (sp?) but the hubby says "no! They stink too much and bite!" Although that's not necessarily true.... but don't tell him that.
OF COURSE I'm gonna post pics!!!! Oh they are such great creatures. So social. And they don't stink OR bite!
Thanks for the comments guys!
