    new helix with question

So I just got my new helix from rich at reptile basics. What an amazine device!!

I've got it on my cool side since that's where she spends most of her time. And my johnson a419 on the hot side.

With the johnson I get about a 4 degree swing from roughly 90 to 94. Set at 96. The helix is set presently at 85 and getting the cool side at a constant 82.9 to 83.3!!!

Such accuracy!! Now this is what the acurite is reading under the newspaper in her tub. When set at 84 it reads 82 to 82.4.

My question is. What does everyonw find more comfortable? Having the tub floor at 82.0 to 82.4 under the newspaper with the helix set at 84. Or having the floor under the newspaper at 82.9 to 83.3 with it set at 85?

Sorry for the long post. And the minute detail but I'm a detail freak haha. Thanks for anybodys time and replies!!!

first off... congrats on the new t-stat!!!

second, i use a herpstat, which is basically the same thing, but i can give you my opinion. i have my herpstat which is on my rack, probe taped to the flex, and i keep things set at 93, this keeps my tubs about 91-92 on the acurite. and that works for me.

    Re: new helix with question

Thanks guys!!! I was more comfortable with the 84 anyways. I'm gonna go turn it back down a degree. She just spends all her time on the cool side. So I wanted it perfect.

I figured I was just maybe losing a degree through the newspaper. Its only 1 or 2 sheets thick though so maybe not.

I definetley recommend the helix. Haven't tried the herpstat but they're the same thing temp controlling wise.

Now to order another one for the hot side!! And use the johnson for an oil heater during the winter.

    Thanks for the replies fellas!
