    Left over rat fuzzy feeders?

Ok so what do you guys do with left over rat babies? I bought 2 rat fuzzies from the store today but I got home and checked under the hide and the snake is right in the middle of a shed cycle, eyes are totally milky so he's not interested in food at all.

So now I got these 2 fuzzies, I have no idea how long the snake will still be in shed, maybe a couple more days.

How long do these things last like this? What do you guys do in this situation?

Give them to someone else who has snakes. They usually won't last more than 24 hours. Other nursing rats would take care of them or you could always bringem back. if they were weaned you could set them up with food and water until your snake is ready.

The pet store doesn't take any animals back, I don't know anyone else that has snakes, and I don't have any current nursing females

Are you sure they are fuzzies? Are their eyes open? If so they might survive a couple of days with food and water.

Also, did you try feeding him? I know I have a couple of girls that eat even in middle of shed?

Yeah, the eyes are not open.

Yep, the snake didn't budge at all. Seemed grumpy when I picked up the hide to take a peek

Oh darn...then yea they aren't likely to survive more then a day or so.

    Options as I see them:
Return them to the store - even if they won't refund your money - at least they won't die
Euthanize them and freeze them till and maybe he will still eat them
Euthanize them and trash them (if you don't think he will eat them ever)
Find anyone who could use them.
Do nothing and hope they hold out a couple of days till he becomes interested again - not very humane but it is your choice.

BTW...it is a long shot but you could get some rabbit milk replacement (or kitten) and use a syringe to feed them to keep them alive till you could feed them off. They would need to be fed every couple of hours.

Re: Left over rat fuzzy feeders?

Leave them with your snake overnight. They're not big enough to hurt him and I've had plenty of snakes take food while in shed. If they aren't eaten by tomorrow morning, put them in a ziplock bag and then put them in the freezer.
