    Mice/Rats together?

Is it ok or not to keep a mouse and a hopper rat together in the same enclosure for a day or two? I got my feeders for tomorrow today, since I was already by the store for other stuff and it's so far from my house. I've got an enclosure, but don't know if I can put them together...

You might be able to get away with it for a day...but there are huge risks that the rat will kill the mouse. They will fight for dominance (especially if one or both are male).

When I was buying rats/mice I ran into the same situation as you a few times sometimes if worked out and other times it was a mess that needed cleaning up (if you get my meaning )

The hopper name is usually affiliated with mice. I wouldn't leave rat's and mice together.

    Re: Mice/Rats together?

They're actually not different sizes. pretty close to identical..

Still, if you guys don't recommend it then I'll accept that as my answer.

    Thanks...

    Re: Mice/Rats together?

If they are about the same size....adult mouse and rat pup...they might be okay but I wouldn't chance it. I'd be more worried that the mouse would chew on the rat pup as mice tend to be naturally more aggressive to strangers (rats are far more social). I'd keep them seperated.
