Regards using Flexwatt and zoomed UTHs..

I have two tubs both on different types of UTHs. I'm assuming they perform on different wattages so hooking them both up to the Ranco will lead to one of them being unbalanced. I'm assuming the Flexwatt heats up faster than the zoomed that being it's probably better, and it's newer. What should I do? Is it okay? I knew I should have bought two flexwatts...

Is it okay to hook both different mats to the same T-stat and assume that the temps would be the same by measuring just one? I can probably play around with it by adding layers of newspaper and measuring the temp for the one without the t-stat probe.

Should I just get another FW?

i would go with another piece flexwatt. for the price of a piece of flexwatt, i wouldn't risk burning my snake.

Re: Regards using Flexwatt and zoomed UTHs..

I think I will and while I'm at it, go ahead and MAYBE pick up a probe kit for sexing. I wish I knew how to pop it and do it safely. I found this video on probing somewhere on youtube about directions of how to probe... can anyone tell me if this is correct? I know hands on is better but I just want to know if that's the idea of it

(and now it turns to a sexing/probe thread )

    Hi,

Yes that video was correct and made by an extremely well respected herper.

Here is a link to another good page describing the process and also popping.

Hands on is definately the way to learn though as you want to be extremely gentle when doing something like this - couldn't you ask a vet to show you?

( just imagine Big Bubba will do to you with a drumstick what you are about to do to the animal and be as gentle as you hope he will be )

Oh and I also vote just getting another peice of flexwatt the same wattage as your existing one.
