    undertank heater..

hello there, i have a zoo med repti therm UTH on the bottom of my BP setup and i just wanted to know if anyone knew any way to remove the UTH without damaging it? reason being im moving up to a bigger tank and want to use the same UTH..but from reading several users feedbacks i saw that if the UTH was removed improperly it could possibly damage the wiring of the UTH. any ideas?

I don't know about a zoo med, but I have sucessfully removed an exo-terra UTH without damage. Its kinda like removing a label off something and you don't want any residue left, go VERY slow, and try not to bend or flex it very much. They are very delicate so be prepared to buy a new one because there is a good chance it may stop working.

I pretty much second that. The ZooMed is all I've ever used before, and I have only had ONE that worked well after being removed. You have to pull very slow and very straight, try not to bend it at all (Yeah right), and can't use scrapers to help get them off. All in all, try it but be ready with a new one.

After discovering how nearly impossible they are to remove with my first one, I now leave the film over the adhesive and tape mine to the tanks/tubs.

    Re: undertank heater..

well when you bend it there is a chance to break the conductive metals (usually copper) that give off the heat. it does have some bend but it can break. i used an old credit type card and went very slow.

if you're moving up to a bigger tank you might need a bigger UTH. you could get some flexwatt from rich at www.reptilebasics.com it's cheaper then buying a new zoomed and it works just as good if not better.
