    Humidity ~80%, bad?

My humidity in a TANK is about 80%. I have two identical hides, I use eco earth which is holding the humidity a little too well. Should I do something about it or will he be fine? Also, if I have to do something, should I just put him in a tub, and take the tank outside to air dry the moss, since it's a little moist.

Yea 80% is kinda high. you might want to let that dry out for an hour or so. You said moss why the moss?? just asking ?

Well I'm using a tank. And I was told during my research that the humidity, heat, and gradient is hard to maintain unless you cover the screen proportionally, and use substrate that holds humidity well...

    Was I wrong?

I wouldnt worry about it to be honest. Unless it doesnt die down in a few days. But usually high humidity bedding like cypress mulch is super high with humidity but it naturally dries out a bit after a few days. But if it doesnt then maybe you should switch to aspen. Eco earth isnt moss is it?

Isn't moss the astroturf greeny stuff? Eco Earth is the brick stuff that you soak in water and it breaks down into a soil-like substance.

Edit: Now I see where I said moss up top by accident. I meant to call it substrate. Not moss. I don't think it's moss. No.. it isn't...

    Re: Humidity ~80%, bad?

In this case, my concern would be mold and other such things. Ball Pythons live in an area that naturally has humidity as high as 100%. So 80% certainly isn't going to cause too much of an issue. However, if the air circulation is too low you could easily start creating some unwelcome guests in his cage. I'd keep an eye on it for a few days, and start uncovering the top a little bit (providing better circulation) and see if that helps.

    Re: Humidity ~80%, bad?

The problem with eco-earth is that it starts out very wet....and over time can become bone-dry. 80% humidity won't hurt for a short span of time...but you'll want to just watch it and tweak your enclosure to make sure the air is circulating. If the humidity is high...uncover the screen. When the humidity drops to "normal" levels (around 50%) partially cover the screen again to help maintain that level.

Thanks for the helpful information. The humidity is dropping to ~65 now.

    Question Re: Humidity ~80%, bad?

I am keeping Mila's humidity a bit high due to maternal incubation - anywhere between 79 & 89% sometimes HI% ......what should I do to keep mold from invading?

Make sure there's some ventilation, and try to make sure that nothing stays "wet" for long stretches of time. With maternal incubation, though, I'm not sure how easy or difficult that is to do.
