    Mexican red knees

How long do mexican red knee tarantulas live I had a female for 7 years and I was the second owner I think the previous owner had her for 4 years. She died three weeks ago. I dont understand why, she was well feed she actually died after eating. I was just wondering if she passed on because she was just an old gal.

    Re: Mexican red knees

    Hi,

I've had my girl for about 11 years I think ( she was an adult when I bought her - or full sized at any rate)- found a reference in "arachnomania" that says there are several reports of females over the age of 24.

    Re: Mexican red knees

Given that she had at least 2 keepers, her actual age could be just about anything. It sounds to me like she was just old and probably very old at that.
Generally it takes about 5+ years for a B. smithi to even reach adult size. After that, they can live for upwards of 20 years.
Some live longer, some not as long, but the "average" life span of a female smithi is about 20 years.
