Sounds like he's settling in fine.
Some BP's do like to climb - they just never seem to be any good at it and fall off a lot.
As a hatchling that's not really a problem but when they get heavier then there is a possibility of them falling awkwardly or landing on something rigid and hurting themselves - it's only a possibility though and many bp's climb their whole lives without doing themselves any harm.
But with mine I figured it wasn't worth it and didn't put anything in the tanks they could climb any great height on.
