to big of a tank?

right now i have my ball in a 24 L x 12.5 W x 17 H tank with 2 hides, a water bowl in the middle, and a climbing branch.

i just picked up a really cheap tank from a friend but its twice as long but everything else is the same... its 48 L x 12.5 W x 17 H

my girl is probably about 2.5 ft long now and im wondering if the tank shes in now is to small? is the new tank for her to big?

what size of the snake determines how big the enclosure should be?

i know ill have to get bigger heating pads for under the tank than i have right now, but thats ok.

The rule of thumb for glass enclosure: the enclosure should be 2/3 of the length of your Ball Python.

In most cases they become stressed due to excessive space.

Just so you know, the larger tank you're talking about is a 50g. Most BP's don't need anything larger than a 30. Also length and width is much more important for ground-dwelling animals than height. That 50g tank is going to be harder to maintain heat and humidity, too. I say stick with what you've already got.

Some BP are easily stress and you will see signs right away, some it takes a little longer.

I would not move this BP in a bigger tank until he is fully grown if I were you even then, it is still more space then your BP will ever need, adults do not require anything bigger than a 30 gallons (L: 36.00  W: 18.00  H: 12.00) glass tank.

Keep in mind that the bigger the enclosure the harder it will be to maintain proper temps and humidity specially during the winter.
