Poop Question
Never thought I would be discussing this on a forum but here goes:
I have a question about my RTB Poop, when he goes Poop part of it is a crusty white material and the other is normal poop color, does anyone know what the white stuff is composed of (As in what part of the prey ) I hope this isnt a wierd question.
The white stuff usually comes with some fluid too not a lot but its usually mushy. The regular poop color poop is usually not loose.
Anyhow my RTB pooped some white stuff like on thursday then on Saturday he was soaking in the big water tub I have in his cage and he left a Huge poop in it, gross yeah it was stinky too.
Is anyone here a snake poop guru?
There are no stupid questions, right?

Re: Poop Question
The white stuff is urine/urates. Snakes have a very efficient digestive system and will remove the majority of the fluid from the urine(sometimes). This process leaves the urine in crystalline form(chalky substance) and they are called urates.

Re: Poop Question
This may seem like an odd question, *not meaning the hijack the thread either* do boa's go as often as ball pythons or more/less?

Re: Poop Question
My boa seems to go around the same as my balls, I think it really depends on the individual animal and what and how often they are eating. But one thing is for sure... poop cleaning is the least fun part of owning snakes!

I would say that redtail boas might poop just a bit more often than balls. Balls seem to be behind on quick metabolism .

Re: Poop Question
My BCC poops rather infrequently - I swear she only poops when it's filled her up to her eyeballs and that I only have half a snake left afterwards. One time she pooped so large, she coiled up on the complete opposite corner of the cage, like she was afraid of it - I was too when I saw it, hehe.
Bottom line: 1. All snakes poop when they are ready to poop. 2. They prefer to poop only after you clean the cage.

Re: Poop Question
LOL Cass! That big boa we rehabbed last year that's now with Becky...I swear she HATED the smell of her own poo! You could walk into the room and there she'd be...snout pressed firmly to the mesh of her lid and a big stink in the far corner. She wouldn't relax until you shovelled it out of there (yes I said shovelled....she passed stuff that would make a Great Dane envious!)
