Can you start big with a baby BP?

I have a 20 gallon (regular) tank that I can use for a baby BP, but I also have an empty 40 Gallon breeder that used to house a Bearded Dragon. I was just curious as to if I can just start putting the BP in the 40 gallon breeder or would it be too stressful for the BP even though I may just cram a lot of hides at the same time providing it a somewhat secure environment.

Can't say I would recommend it... I say just stick to the 20.

The key is making the Ball feel secure. It is much easier to do in a smaller tank...but it can be done in a larger tank. To your post you will need more hides, more stuff to take up space. All this extra stuff also means more cleaning each week...so again it can be done but if you have both it would be simpler to start small and let the Ball grow into the larger one.

I use a 20 gallon now, my BP is about 3 months old and it's still pretty big of an enclosure. I have 3 hides in there, fake plants, driftwood, and another plastic driftwood kind of thing that also can act like a hide. It's more stuff to clean, but the snakes doing well. I'd say stick with the 20 gallon

Not recommended you want your BP to feel secure. Too big of an enclosure can be overwhelming and cause unnecessary stress which can lead to several issues (going off feed, weakening the BP’s immune system, aggression etc).

Bottom line BP do better in smaller enclosure.
