Re: Afrock feeding pics
That meals a bit too small for him. You should bump up the prey size to small rats or so...just some help
Some advice too, is to add some fowl to the diet here and there. AfRocks seem to blow up in size, and look tons healthier when they get a bird about once a month, or so. He is gorgeous!

Nice looking boy! I really like them too! But time and space are running low. Too bad I can't have one of everything I like!

Re: Afrock feeding pics
I have "heard" that a fowl prey item every month helps clean out the snakes digestive system.
Again I "heard" this don't know any truth behind it.

PS awesome snake!!

i guess that makes sense, considering snake feces post bird meal are just about the worst thing ever.

I feed me giants on a 60/40 ratio of avian to mammalian prey. The amount of muscle tone that these guys get from avain prey is significant. IMO, a pure mammalian diet is not as well rounded and nutritious as that which contains birds and mammals. I have seen many burms that have "lumpy" absesses in their midsections, believed to be caused by fat deposits from guinea pigs and rabbits.
Again, feeding fowl is a great idea, IMO. I would agree that the fecal remains may be smellier at times, but then again, I have had pig remains and rabbit remains smell even worse.

Re: Afrock feeding pics
Fowl are a natural part of the African Rock Pythons diet. They commonly take down and prey upon water dwelling fowl....since of course, they do frequent water often. When being fed fowl, compared to a strict mammalian diet; I've noticed their scales to be much healthier looking, and the animal to act much healthier, and "normal".
As for the end result of feeding birds to your snake....if you feed both mammals and birds to your snake, you shouldn't get runny bird poo that some people see. If your that worried about it, throw a mouse, rat or rabbit in along with the bird you offer during that feeding.
