bp question
ok so my friend had to get rid of his ball python and iguanas so i took his snake for him so it would have a good place to stay im not really experienced with this but i think i do a good job of taking care of mine. so the question is i now have 2 tanks on one shelf next to each other is that ok or should i maybe put the other a shelf down? i just need to make some room on it which i didnt have time to do now and if i have to i will do that. im assuming there wouldnt by doing it now but again i could always be wrong and would rather not be. also i noticed he kept his in a rather dry environment as it has some stuck shed on the neck and half of her head im not sure if i want to do the soaking process as she didnt see fond of my hand being near her when i was filling the water dish. and thats it sorry for the long post but their health means everything to me.
thanks

Re: bp question
Cages/tanks/ tubs can be side-by-side. That shouldn't matter, as long as it's one snake, one tank. Cosider covering 3 of the 4 sides of both tanks to provide more security, less movement distraction for the snakes. Do you have a properly sized, identical hide on each side? On one of my tanks, I've taped a black, plastic garbage back along the short ends and the back.
Hot side temp should be 92-94*, cool side 82-84* and humidity ~50%, boosted to 60-65% during shed. If there's pieces of old shed, wait until the next shed cycle and up the humidity. Old stuff should come off with the next cycle.
How long ago did U get your new pet? Give her a week to settle in. Then gradually handle her for short periods of time, but only after she's eaten consistantly for about 4 weeks. Balls aren't a "play pet" like some. Balls are timid and even tho' there are exceptions, most get stressed with a lot of handling.

Re: bp question
well ive had mine for a couple months now and yes i have that enclosure set up properly. my friend had bought his snake around the same time as me and we both bought the same starter kit so its basically the same set up he just doesnt have a humidity gauge in there which i will get as soon as i can make it to the pet store (most likely tomorrow) but other than that the setup is exactly as mine.
as for mine that i have had the humidity is around 65% cool side typically @ 82 degrees warm side hovering around 90-91 degrees

Just a thought....
If you bought the kit sets from the pet store, the thermometers and the humidity gauges (the round, analogs w/the little needles and color zones) won't be accurate. < I learned that the hard way. *sigh*> You'll need to either invest in an accurite (both temps and humidity in one) or an ESU digital therm/hydrometer with a 2nd digital thermometer for the other side.
Sounds good. Small, SNUG hides are a good thing, too.

Re: bp question
I would soak her in water(luke warm) or make a humid hide with damp moss to get rid of the stuck shed. Your snake wil appreciate it.

Re: bp question
it was a reptile* shop we got them from sorry ive heard they wont be accurate but as far as i can see they have been working just fine in there there are no problems with my snake he eats regularly unless shedding and shed cycle is just perfect, and its not my snake im having any problems with its my friends that was just given to me earlier tonight. as i said i dont think her enclosure had the right humidity. i would love to invest in other things for mine but as good as that sounds i have to make due with what i have as i live with my parents and i am unemployed at the moment. and for the soak i would do that believe me but she isnt mine and i dont know how her behavior really is and she did hiss at me while filling her water dish when i got home with her. i dont know when she started shedding either

Re: bp question
Raul, good idea w/the humid hide....I forgot about that . < I haven't had to use mine for a while since we moved to our new house, sorry! >
I only suggested he wait on the old shed, b/c he said he didn't want to go thru the soak routine. But you're right. The snake would be much more comfortable, (and more than likely healthier) w/o all the old skin still stuck on.

Re: bp question
now i only want to make this clear up until 2 hours ago she wasnt mine she was my friends. believe me i dont want her to be uncomfortable or unhealthy but i do also need to talk to my friend to find out more about his snake as i didnt have time i was in a rush from another friend driving me home to get her and get home. so as of right now until her previous owner is awake i know just as much about her as you. so for all i know i could wake up tomorrow and she could have the rest of this skin off which is why im not rushing into the soaking routine and all that. and im not saying your putting this on me but it seems im to blame here for her stuck shed.
