Can someone explain what "Flames" are?

I've seen this term used, but can't exactly identify looking at pictures what it is. Could someone explain in words what it means?

The light areas coming up from the belly like "flames" between the pattern on this girl are flames. She is now in Joanna (FrankyKeno's) collection as Cara.

Flames on Breth:


Flames are the triangular blushing parts coming from their belly and going up their sides. Flames can also be blobby and have areas of white inside the flame.
