In your oppinion.. (feeding question)

How big or how old should a bp be to start feeding on medium rats? My girls getting pretty big now, and has no problem with even the biggest mice I give her (which is good), but I was just wondering when I should start with rats.. Shes def. big enough for a medium sized rat, but Im not quite sure if I should try it or not.

Many people here feed smaller preys which will allow your BP to eat with consistency.

BP do fast to catch up if overfed and because your BP can take a large prey does not mean he needs to.

I feed all my BP a prey slightly smaller then the girth size and nothing larger then a small rat (4 week old 45-55 grams) to my adults.

Jumping not only from prey type but also a huge jump in prey size is probably going to get your snake and you into difficulties. A large mouse might weigh about 25 grams or so which is about the equivalent of a rat pup, a medium rat could be upwards easily of 150 grams, if not more.

I never feed med rats small is all
I use to feed med rats and had them go off feed every year or they would skip two or three meals. I started feeding smalls only even to my big girls and they pound them like Kung Pow duck. hope that helps
