Anyone else' snake afraid of the ground?
Yup, you read the title right, afraid of the ground. My girl spends about 95% of her time climbing all over her veins and leaves and does everything she can to stay off the ground, the other 5% of the time she just coils up and sits on the top of the tree and smashes herself between it and the lid. heres her tank:

Re: Anyone else' snake afraid of the ground?
They have big cages full of babies at the exotics store I go to. Most of them cruise around or clump together under the big community hide. But, there are always 2 or 3 out of the group that manage to wind themselves around the tiny piece of exposed power cord going to the flourescent lamp at the top of their cage. I reckon some just feel more secure that way. You've got yourself a "climber"!
Or, he may not like the substrate. I experimented with using alot of peet moss for a while. I would make patches of it that he would occasionally burrow under for hiding. But, the stuff tends to dry out and the cage gets littered with little fragments of it. As time went on he started avoiding the ground and chose to travel around by passing between the various pieces of furniture he has. I cleaned the moss out and now he's back to being a ground dweller. You might try a softer substrate and see.

other than the substrate i can't really think of anything else. do you have uth? and a digital thermometer that has a probe on the ground? if not it might be too cold or too warm for him/her.

Re: Anyone else' snake afraid of the ground?
Since I got her and had her in her tub, she has always been on the move and climbed around, thats when I got her a bigger tank and a tree to climb on and some leaves, but she kept smashing the leaves down, so I got her one of those vine things that you bend, and i wrapped the leaves around it, so now she can climb all over and not smash it all to the floor, i cant believe she hasnt gotten herself in a knot by now, lol.
she def likes being up there:

Well if you're convinced she likes it then roll with it. And, I'd have to agree, that is one COOL ball python!
How do you keep the temperature high up there? In my tank it seems like the temp drops to near room within inches of any heat source and I have almost all of the roof blocked off!
