So if I get another leo...

See I have a male leo and I want to get him a friend but if memory serves, if I put in another male, they'll fight, possibly to the death. So that means I need to get a female. But if I do that...then they'll be doing their business with each other all the time. And unfortunately I don't really have a market for a bunch of baby leos. Do they only breed at a certain time of the year or all the time? I'm really not looking for a response saying that I just shouldn't get another one.

Yea people that have more that one tend to get females.

males will fight and shouldn't be kept together. males and females shouldn't be kept together unless you want babies because they will breed, regardless of what time of year or any other environmental factors--you can't control it. the only way you can keep more than one leo together without fighting or babies is if you keep females of similar size together.

No you may just have to get another set up and start keeping females if you want a set up of more than one

    You have options

Re: So if I get another leo...

i'd advise you not. getting a second leo just because you want more than one and then just letting them breed is not a good idea.

before you decide to breed leos you need to research and be prepared to incubate and care for the babies. you need to select a female that is healthy and ready in age and weight to breed. you need to set up an incubator and have proper enclosures set up for the babies--you may get 10 or more babies from one female, depending on her age and physical conditiion. you have to be prepared to feed and care for all the babies and have a plan as to what you are going to do with them, whether it be keeping them yourself, selling them online or at shows or to a local pet store.

this isn't a decision to take lightly, or one that you just "guess" you'll do. you don't just "let em breed"--you reasearch, plan and prepare before you consider it. please take this seriously.

Re: So if I get another leo...

I apologize. I would never really "just let em breed". I would take it very seriously. If I actually did get another one I would ensure I had everything prepared for the inevitable. I think I really would enjoy the whole process, I would just be worried I wouldn't be able to sell them, or even give them away. Are local pet stores allowed to take animals like that if I brought them some? Or do you have to be a certified breeder or something like that?
