    Scary/exciting

Well my wife and I have moved from the talking about a new place to a lets start initiating the process and make some decisions. We both work out of town and I drop her off but we are feeling more and more the need to be closer to work. We spend close to two hours a day in the car which granted isn't bad but that adds up to 10hrs a week! That and her managing the equestrian center doesn't always match up to my schedule. I can't stand sitting in a hot/cold car if things are running behind when I pick her up from work...and most of the time its not her fault (LOL). We also need...want something bigger and nicer.

The options we have are to buy a new house, buy the house my grandmother is currently living in, or build. The latter two options would be on my parents farm. The farm has many positives for us but isn't any closer to where either of us is working. We are kinda intimidated about building but my step dad does that kind of work and we could save money having him head that as well working ourselves. We would be very close to my parents which hopefully wouldn't be a bad thing LOL. The farm would also give my wife all the land she could want for some non-show horses in the future. We haven't really decided which direction to go yet on that.

The first thing we are looking at is the selling market. Seems like every other house on our street was for sale (literally) but as of the end of the winter and now spring they have sold and some pretty quickly. We have planned improvements for this summer and some others that we would like to do.

Others have talked about moving or trying to sell with their reptiles in the house and now its my turn to start thinking about such concerns. There is no where in the house to "hide" the animals its just not possible. I also think about the stress of moving them or having to keep them somewhere such as my parents...which might have to be done. I don't know how likely the possibility of moving into a new home while having not yet sold our current one is...financially. But that would be ideal so the animals where "out of the way" yet still in a location where I could monitor them easily.

My wife already has a house she wants to look at and talk to an agent about. It has a pool and hot tub! Not that those where even considered as requirements for us. We just want more house. But she knows the lady who is selling and they have been waiting to sell for some time...maybe if we like it we can lucky on the price...who knows.

So many things to think about and even more that we will need to consider but don't yet have a clue about!

    Re: Scary/exciting

having somewhere to move your reptiles (snakes specifically) is a good idea IMO when you are attempting to sell a house. i wouldn't want someone who wanted the house but was afraid of snakes to not buy the house over a fear that one may have escaped.

so, when we were discussing selling our home, i found someone willing to house them during the selling phase... once the house was sold i would have moved them back in and done business as usual till the move

of course, where i live the market is quick. houses go on the market for days and are sold... so it wouldn't be a long 'rehoming' time for me.

    Re: Scary/exciting

Well we looked at our first house last night. Great location but on a somewhat busy road. Big enough back yard to forget about what's going on at the road though. Includes a nice sized pool, hot tub and deck. -not that those where our key factors The house itself we both liked. Nice open kitchen, 3 bedrooms, nice sized living room with bay window. The basement could use a little work but the main sections are finished. One section has a sink and counter space...hello reptile tub cleaning area!! I could have a good thing going in the basement as far as keeping my reptiles. There is also a large entertainment room, small bedroom, and wash room. Funny how a thing such as a sink can send a flury of ideas into ones head LOL. Oh and two stall garage...probably room for both vehicles and my motorcycle as well as work space. The price is a little more than we are aiming for but it has been on the market a while and the owners are anxious to move. He told us they would be doing another price drop pretty soon, and my wife kinda knows the family selling... We know not to jump on the first thing we look at and have the Realtor starting a search for us today based on some discussion we had on what we are looking for. While that is happening my wife and will be checking out different lenders who can work with us on a second or combined mortgage until our current home sells.
