    Hissing.

Never had my snake hiss at me before, until tonight.

This means stay away, i'm assuming?

    Why do they do this?

    Maybe shedding?

He seemed very intersted in my hand, too.

It happens. Usually if i open the tub too fast and scare 'em. Also can happen if they are shedding and can't see you, or generally doesn't want to be touched. Never had one hiss, me touch it and then strike. Only been hit by a ball once, SFE, lol.

    Re: Hissing.

Some just hiss as a matter of course. Some hiss when they are in shed, startled, ticked off at the world, whatever. Some strike without a hiss at all. After enough time with your snake you'll come to know what the each different hiss is telling you and can react to it appropriately. It's a lifelong learning curve with these wonderful creatures.

    Re: Hissing.

Mine hissed once when I went to get her out of her cage, so I left her alone ... then the next morning I came to find that she had shed during the night (I wasn't aware at the time of her 'symptoms' of 'shed time' .. so it was my bad.
