    Do snakes sneeze? or dream?

I just happened to be watching my BP and all of a sudden he jerked his head really weird and kind of opened his mouth a little. It was the fastest I'd ever seen him move when not feeding. He looked a little out of sorts for a second but chilled out. Then he yawned once, twice, a reallllly long third time, adjusted himself a bit, did some more stuff that reminded me of a sleepy person smacking his lips, and then (I'm guessing) went back to sleep.

When his mouth was open for a long time I looked carefully and his mouth looks clean and pink like it always has.

Anybody have any ideas? Should I get him checked out or look for anything?

Well i can not say if they dream for sure or not.I can say pythons tend to have these jerks but i have never seen nor heard of it causing anything to worry about. So basicly he is doing his little snakey stuff lol.

I'm hoping so. (Did you remember his name was Snakey or was that coincidence?? )

He's always been very "yawny". I've upped the size of his prey recently and I've noticed he's gotten a bit of loose neck skin. I fed him two days ago and could tell that things were stretching beyond the width of his jaw. Perhaps there was a mild injury with swelling that is sorting itself out.

btw, he stopped doing it. Now I just need to clean my shorts...

    whew...

Haha ya my ball Python "yawns" sometimes. He usually does it after he eats to realign his jaws but I have seen him do it at other times and it basically just seems random. As long as his mouth seemed clear of bubbles or mucous I think you are probably good to go.

I have not seen any of my balls do this, but they are in semi-clear tubs. I did catch one of my boas doing something very similar though.
