I am now a BP owner! (big pix inside)

Thanks to everyone that has helped answer questions and give advice.

Wednesday night, I got a 3 year old female from my coworker friend (who is also a breeder). I was gonna get a baby but I could pass up that kind of deal.

Here are two pictures of here in her tank.

My only question now is do I have the sensors in the right spot? The main one is obvious but the probe I put inside hide on the left on the surface of the substrate. The left side is the hot side. The humidity reading seems a bit high but it has gone down since taking the pictures.

Also, she has spent the entire time (outside of exploring the whole tank) on the cool side. I am assuming this is fine and when she want to warm up she'll move. Maybe she goes there when I am not home.

The cool side temp is always around 79. The warmside is around 90 but it fluctuates more. Most I've seen is is 93 with a low of 89. I plan on getting a repti-stat of some sort but I think that will do for now.

Anyways, my wife and I already love her.

P.S. If you have any constructive criticism or questions feel free.

She is a nice looking big girl

I would suggest you move the probe that is inside the hide. Leave it in the hide just route the wire under the back of the hide...this way she is less likely to move it as she comes in and out of the hide.

As for the humidity unless it has come down significantly you might want to remove the towel on top (from say half the tank) just for a little while why the humidity comes down to normal levels. Elevated levels for too long aren't good.

I was told the grams but I don't really remember. I think he said 600. I do remember him saying it was slightly over 2 lbs.

She would have to be at least 908 grams to be in the 2lb range To me for 3yrs old seems a tad underweight.

Heh, metric measurements aren't my thing. I do know that she is about 2 and half feet long. Can you get a scale for wieghing her at Walmart or the like?

i got my digital scale at walmart for $30... may sound a little pricey with all the stuff you already have bought and need to buy, but it will come in handy. i not only use it to weigh my snakes but i can weight there food to see how much they're eating a week. i also use it to weigh out my quarter pound hamburgers that i so dearly love

the next buy i think i am going to make is for a non contact thermometer.

and the snake looks good, you think you love her now just wait... the longer you have her the more you will love the little things they do.

I'm a new BP owner as well; trying to work out the specifics of getting my tank set up just right .... I currently only have 1 hide ... does anyone know if it's recommended to really have 2? One on the cold side and one on the warmer side? I see you have 2, with the water bowl right in the middle... also, I with regards to the probe, that's ok for it to sit on the substrate in range to the snake? They wouldn't mess with it?

Yes, two hides are a necessity unless the snake is housed in a darker rack. And even then, with shy snakes, I might still off two anyway.

Re: I am now a BP owner! (big pix inside)

Well, it's been a few days and the humidity leveled out at about 60% which I think is great from what I have read. I added a "moon light" so that I can see the tank at night. We also weight her today and she comes in at a 3 lbs even. My scale doesn't do grams.

Gonna try and feed her tomorrow and see what happens.
