i had one of those massages many years ago. i think the massage therapist just didn't know how to do it well IMO. i've since had many massages and none of them put me into the same intense pain as her's did.

personally, i think there's 'working out the knots' and then there's 'come one boys, let's get the digger out on this one' - sounds to me like you had the latter.
