Het Axanthic male...should I do it?
There is someone local to me selling an 06 het axanthic male from NERD for a good price.
I'm just wondering if I should seriously consider it. I'm currently a bit male heavy with 2 adult normals, a het pied and a lemon pastel.
I'd love some input into whether this would be a good purchase. The same person also has a het orange ghost from NERD, same year. Again, it's a male which is why I hesitate.
Any suggestions would be great :-)

Do you plan on making axanthics a goal? Remember, if he breeds next year, you will get 50% hets. Hold back all the females and breed them back to dad. This process could take 3 or 4 years more to complete. Is that something you intend to do? If not, get it anyway if the snake has something you like about it. I would gladly pick up some males for the right place if they had real neat patterns

what he said ^
I know it costs more, but it might be better to just get an axanthic male.

Thanks for the advice. After thinking about, I sat down with my husband and started to figure out just where we wanted to go with breeding. For right now, I'm going to stick with my pastel (and pick up a female lemon pastel) and my het pieds....
I appreciate all the help and information!

I agree, I like hets for my females and visual for the males.

if you really want an axanthic, go for a female het. females need more time to mature than males. you could also get the breeder to include a male het for little to no extra?

Re: Het Axanthic male...should I do it?
I have a pair of 100% axanthic hets. I plan to give the female another year since this coming year would be pushing it, but breed the male this coming season to get poss. hets. But the kick is there is a way to pick out the ones that are probably the hets. At least with the SK line, hets when hatched have a green tint. They also have 'markers' [more like tell-tale signs] of being hets. It's not the fastest way to do it, but probably the cheapest.
I only paid $500 for my pair as babies at a show, most of that being the female. You should be able to find a male het baby or juvie for $200 shipped, a proven breeder maybe only $400 shipped.
Axanthics are key to many other morphs, and many more to come. although the price will slowly drop, I believe they will always hold a fairly good price.
Hope this helps
