My newest little rescue

Here I was a few days ago posting about how I wished my leos were teeny again. Well, I went to petco to get some crickets and mealies for my geckos and there was this little guy up for adoption. He (we will just call him a he for now) has a regrown tail and missing a bunch of toes. I felt so bad for him, it looked like he had already had a rough start so I didn't want someone else to come along not knowing anything about them to take him on. This petco I might add is one of the very few good ones. Very nice, nice people. The manager is a ditz but at least ALL the animals are well, clean cages, fresh water, and lots of hides for the reptiles. Anway he is eating crickets like crazy, but his poo is full of sand. So after a week of adjusting I will start giving him warm baths to help pass the sand if he still has it in his poo. Then off to the vet for fecals and all that good stuff.

aaaw he is SO cute! poor baby--he looks pretty good though, all things considered. if he is passing the sand right now he should be okay as long as he continues to defecate. keep us updated on him!

A quick question: Are missing toes due to bad shed? I don't own geckos/lizards but heard that it is common in iguanas that are not properly cared for.

He is really cute, and extremely friendly lol. Everytime I walk into the room where he is he comes out and just stares. Not the least bit skittish.

He is pooping like crazy so I am assuming all the sand is coming out. As long as he keeps it up I will wait on the bath. He does look pretty good, he isn't really skinny (just baby skinny) and he's eating like crazy and really active at night.

yep, most often bad sheds are the cause of lost toes in leos and other geckos. when the old skin doesn't come off it restricts blood flow to the toes, causing them to die.
