If your interested in IT one of the best places you can start is with your local school technology dept. Granted they may not start you out directly with pay...but you never know. If you can get an internship through school or even volunteer and you prove your work ethic (knowledge can come with experience) you will be in good shape.
I started into the field working for my local school district. I was in 11th grade and taking a vocational course on Information Systems Technology. The opportunity for summer work came up and I jumped at it. Now over 10yrs later here I am still doing IT for public education.
Be aware of the state of schools right now and the lack of money, don't be discouraged if they can't hire you...its just how things are right now. If your really interested in the field though and work it in between mowing lawns I can't stress enough how beneficial volunteering can be. You will learn new things and you can still put it on a resume.
