    Is it a good sign that i can hold him around my neck while i do things in his tank and he just chills?

    Well it depends on how he responds really to be honest.


    It's always been recomended that handling be kept to an absolute minimum in the first week at least to give them a chance to settle in to their new environment.

    The only real way you will know whether he is actually relaxed and happy is if he eats regularly - and it takes about 3 weeks at one feeding per week before you can assert that with any real confidence.

    About the best you can realistically expect from a snake is to be considered a large,safe, centrally heated tree that won't try and eat him.

    As to the size of your hide mentioned earlier if it will take you some time get smaller versions then adding a second one identicle to the one you already have would be the next best thing as a way of avoiding him having to choose between security and thermoregulation.

    All these little things can make a huge difference to ball pythons - they really are such sweet, shy little snakes. Apart from the ones who aren't of course.
