    snakes cages? (newb)

Hey everyone, well i am a newb as far as this site goes, but not a newb to snakes, i've had my snake for about 3 yrs now, and its great, but i've been keeping her in a 20 gallon tank for a couple months now, before she was in a HUGE tank with all kinds of hides and such, and since i got rid of the huge tank i had (due to moving, im in the military) she's been acting very stressed..i have a hide for her now, but she still wont eat..its been like a month since she has eaten which i know seems fairly normal, but my question is, what should i upgrade her to? I wanna get something shes gonna be less stressed in and very comfortable but also so i can enjoy watching her when she is out. And i also have another question.. I plan on getting a columbian red tail pretty soon, (baby) what size tank should i get for it? Also keeping in mind i would like to see them..Any advice would be ideal , and i would appriciate it. Thanks

Well you say you've had the snake for 3 years.. so it's more or less full grown then. Adult BPs do well in a 30 gallon long tank (tanks actually aren't the best for keeping snakes in.. but since you want to be able to see the snakes easily they're the cheapest option) bigger cages are actually more stressful than smaller ones.. BPs are shy animals and they like to feel secure.

Try giving her an extra hide.. one for the cool side and one for the warm side. Make sure your temperatures and humidity are correct (82-84 degrees cool side 92-94 warm and 50-60% humidity.. measure with a digital thermometer/hygrometer, not the dial ones, they're junk)

If you can provide a picture of the setup, that'd help us to help you too.

As far as colombian red tails.. if you're getting a baby, you'll want a small cage (like a 10 gallon tank.. or even a 5 if it's a small baby) an adult will need either a 4'x2' or 6'x2' cage depending on it's adult size.

    Hope that helps.

Your 3 year old will do great in 40 breeder or 55 gallon-sized tanks.

A little BCI can be kept in a 10-15 gallon tank until it is about 3' in length, at which point a 20 long will suffice.

Just a silly question...the snake you have is a Ball Python correct? (You didn't actually say )

Also, the stress you are seeing may not be from being in a small cage but from something else...outside the tank what is the rest of your setup like? Temps, humidity, substrate? Also, you mention 1 hide - but do you have a hide for both sides (the hot and cold sides?)
