    Retained Egg?

    What would one look like if she finally passed one? Yesterday morning i notices that my female was bloated in the lower half of her body, so i was wondering what was goin on. I picked her up massaged her belly to see if i could feel any type of obstruction. So as i did out came 2 urates that looked like small eggs. i cracked them both open one was all white (urate) one was yellow on the outside and white on the inside. When they came out she basically leaked a whole mess of fluid and litterally deflated infront of me. I am sure she was blocked but i didn't know if it was from a retained egg or just larger than normal urates.

    Sounds like urates to me Mike. A pic would definitely help, but I don't think you have cause for concern.

    I just never saw urates that big or perfectly egg shaped b4. Yea im sorry, i don't have a digital camera, and my girlfriend isn't around for me to steal her's. i thought they were urates, one def looked like just a large urate, the other looked more egg-ish with that two tone appearance. I will look at them again (i saved them from yesterday) i wasn't super worried, i was just curious as to what one would look like.

    Thanks tim,

    Re: Retained Egg?

    Hi,

    This is what the vet said were the retained eggs from mine last year. I too manually manipulated em out and got the massive flood of p.

    I was quite worried about it at the time but she has fully recovered since - I will try and find the thread I made. In the meantime here are the pics;

    I for one am very glad that you did what you did. I have had cornsnakes retain an egg or two after laying a clutch but they always passed them the following year with no problems. Thanks for the very informative post. Jimi
