Trip to San Diego Zoo/Wild Animal Park (DUW)

Last week I took a few days off and went to the SD Zoo, Wild Animal Park, Seaworld and Universal Studios with my son. In spite of the 90+ degree heat we still had a great time. My son really enjoyed the herp section at the SD Zoo, and he especially got a kick out of one little boy that was passing by the cages and commented on how the Woma python was a Rattlesnake and was "mean". He then commented on how the snake in the next cage was "nice"... which happened to be a Green Mamba.

Here are just a few pics from the trip:

    Hungry Hungry Hippo

The big Giraffe was 18' tall!

    Cute Koala.

Another Hippo. I was tempted to join him at that point because it was so hot.

    Cute seal at Seaworld

    The gorillas are always interesting

See what happens when you leave your car for a bathroom break?

Just in time for Mother's Day

My son's favorite mammal... the Okapi. (He calls it the WingDingDilly)

I told you it was his favorite

    Big Bird

Moray Eel... they had dozens of them in a large tank at Seaworld

I forgot what this snake was, but it was gorgeous

    Nice Gila Monster

A gaggle (or is that a pride) of Galapagos Torts

Komodo Dragon... one of my favorite herps

    Cool looking Gharial

    Boelen's Python

Dwarf Croc... I was surprised that they put a pair of these in with a bunch of turtles.

Another cool looking Monitor (I think it was a Nile Monitor)

One of the coolest looking Rattlesnakes I've ever seen... even in shed.

My favorite snake there... a Green Mamba. He even yawned for me.

One of my son and the scenery at the Wild Animal Park

We barely escaped with our lives at Universal Studios!

great pics lawrence, always have to love zoo pics. the forgotten snake looks to be a eyelash viper too, actually i lied, it looks like one of the malaysian pit vipers, like a kanburian or something similar but not completely sure. either way love the pics, thanks

Thanks! The SD Zoo used to be kind of depressing with a lot of small enclosures for the large mammals, but they've recently updated and given large open spaces for their bears, primates, lions/tigers etc.

Oh, and you might be right about it being an Eyelash Viper. It does look similar to some of the mature viper pics I've been able to find.

I was positive it was a green phase eyelash until after i posted it, then I was like uhhh uhhh but you can't see the head, then went back and edited my post and now realize i sounded like an idiot. But yeah, my first and strongest thought was green phase eyelash

LOL. I'd love to Tyree but I don't think I'll be back for a few more years. L.A. traffic is a nightmare!
