    Tubs vs Tanks

I see alot of people on here have tubs as their enclosures.

My guess is because you have multiple bp, etc and they are just more convient and save more space.

I have 1 bp and have him in a tank in my living room. I think it's pretty cool cause I make it nice for show when I have friends over for the game.

Does anyone here have 1 bp in a tub?

And if so why do you choose a tub over the tank?

Does anyone else like the tank more than the tub idea like me?

    Re: Tubs vs Tanks

I use tubs because I have multiple BPs, but I like them better than tanks for several reasons:
    1) because they give the snakes more privacy, which is something they really like. They live in burrows and termite mounds in the wild, so they don't require the verticle space that tanks provide.
    2) I used to have tanks, but found them harder to maintain humidity and temps on my cool side would fluctuate more than I would have liked them to with drafts etc.
    3) Space is an issue for me so I like the whole rack setup. It works well for my needs.

Tanks are awesome for display animals. I won't argue with you there. Balls aren't very active durring the day however, which is a down side to that. But if you're a night owl, that could be a bonus as well.
That is my take on it.

    Yeah. Good post.

Hopefully when I eventually buy a house instead of the apartment I can get a multi tank display.

That would be pretty cool. Sorta like some petstores have.

    Think Petco has them.

I'm in a small apartment now so I really cant expand my collection.

I was lucky enough to get a wife that loved herps, but she hates tubs! we've been slowly converting all of our snakes (and most other herps) over to tubs and she's not super happy about it but complying since she cares about the snakes health more. I told her we'd keep one or two in tanks for her to watch though so she's at least slightly happy

    Re: Tubs vs Tanks

After having one ball python in a tank (my first) and lugging the 20 gallon into the bathtub once a month for the monthly clean/disinfection and fighting with constantly fluctutating temps and humidity, I switched to tubs and never looked back.

Not to mention, he fasted for eight months in his tank. No matter what I did, he never felt secure in a tank and I nearly pulled my hair out trying to keep the warm side warm and the cool side in the acceptable range for cool, but sacrificed humidity for my efforts.

It boiled down to what was best for the health and well-being of Kashmire. He was very unhappy in a tank set-up. I switched him to a tub, and after his acclimation period, he immediately started eating for me again. We just made it through this past winter without a fast (his 8 month fast was during last years' winter).

I have fifteen snakes, and yes, tubs are more space efficient, but even if I culled my collection down to one snake, I'd never use a tank again for a ball python.

Ball pythons are a poor choice for a display snake. Tanks are better suited for less shy snakes like corn snakes. Kashmire's old 20 gallon tall now houses a leopard gecko, and his old 20 gallon long is a breeder tank for my rats.
