Yawning?? RI problem?

Everytime after I feed him he will yawn a lot I figure its cause hes putting his jaw back in place but he will do it quite a few times. If he were to have RI how could I check and find out. What do I need to do. Thanks

Well he is doing the yawning to reset his jaws.If he was to have RI you would notice a slimy like substance inside his throat area.Of course in a very bad case it would seep outside his mouth.They normaly refuse to eat as it crosses out there senses and desire to eat.If your temps are kept at the correct levels and the enclosure is kept clean you should have no health issues .

Well he hit the nail on the head, other then that, the only thing I could say, you asked how could you check and what could you do. Take him to the vet if you're worried. They'll be able to tell you, but to me it sounds just like he's resetting his jaw!

With RIs, the yawning would occur on a regular basis. It will also produce a wheeze or a whistle while breathing.

If it only occurs shortly after a meal, then I wouldn't think it was an RI but if you ever are in doubt get yourself to a good herp vet.

I hope so!

Yes it is. Snakes don't have a diaphragm so in order to breath they must physically move their ribcage (which is quite pliable so they can get whole prey items down their bodies). This doesn't mean you should ever see horribly labored breathing though, that would indicate, to me at least, that the snake's in distress and needs immediate help.

Thanks...It felt like maybe a stupid question, but I have wondered a couple times if they're just way freaked out to be out with me or if it's just them doin' their breathing thang... But no, it's not too distressed or any of that... the one who's seen a vet recently does it all the time (apparently cuz he's gotta to stay alive LOL) so I *assumed* that that's all it was, but while we were on the subject I thought I'd slip it in there...

When it comes to reptiles thier are no stupid questions.In my opinion it shows you really care about your reptiles health and happiness .
