    Accurite thermometer question.

Hey I use two accurite thermometers one for the warm side and one for the cold side

I put the probe from the hot side into his hide. and the cold side probe in the the cold side hide. On the accurite it measures an in and out temperature. Is the out temperature the one from the probe?? Also my main problem has been controlling the temperatures. Since its been hot here in california almost everyday now my tank temperatures have been affected. It will say 87 on the cold side (yea I know bad) I have turned the light down. But the temperature doesnt drop. I will open the tank after about 5 to 10 minutes and there is no heat in there!! So then I turn the light back on so I can heat it up again. I can tell when he gets to hot because he will go in the corner of the tank or on the side of it on the cool side. Most of the time he spends is in the cold side hide or on top of the hide on the tree. I rarely see him on the warm side. Not sure what I should do I am wating on my ranco right now it should come in tommorow. And then I will start putting together my new set up. But for now I need to fix this I am very concerned. Please if anyone can put some input on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    Dean

The actual thermomter, witht he digital read out measures the in temp, and the probe the out temp, so put the probe on the hot side and the base on the cool side.

Dean you actually only need one Acu-Rite. If you put the unit itself on the cool side at substrate level, then run the probe over and tuck it inside the warm side hide you'll get the information you need. The unit picks up the cool side temp (IN temp), the probe reads the warm side inside the hide temp (OUT temp) and also you'll see the overall humidity readout.

Take that other Acu-Rite and set it up in the room the tank is in. Folks forget that their enclosures are dealing with room temps around them so if you know the temp and humidity of the room the enclosure is in, you can help it stabilize the tank by stabilizing the room itself. In other words if it's hot there and the room is at 85 degrees already, your tank is starting at a base of that and the heat source is pushing it up from there. Make sense? Same with humidity, if it's very humid there, you need to deal with that in the room the tank is in to get the tank into the proper ranges.

    Re: Accurite thermometer question.

My stinkin' new girl killed hers in her water bowl sometime last night... I get to replace it today... although I bet Walmart would just let me return the old one (jk) And she spilled her water all over her tank soaking half of the carpet. I got her out of her cool hide a cold wet mess this morning, and boy was she pizzy... not balled up in the least, she was trying to get from me! She'd pooed in her warm hide last night too, so I got that cleaned up and she went back into her warm hide very happily... crazy girl... and now I take ze poo to the vet! We had an appt tomorrow anyway
