Re: thawing mice
Well, I wouldn't be putting one up to my face and inhaling deeply! LOL. But if it smells as bad as you're describing, I would assume something was wrong with it...like the meat spoiled before it was frozen or something. A freshly thawed rodent shouldn't have a really strong odor. Unless the belly bursts...then it's just naaaasty!

I ALWAYS smell the rats, b4 and after the defrosting/warming.
I usually inhale slowly at 1st tho lol little sniffs...
If they smell a bit funny (or i puke in the bag) then i bin them.
Very true, if they are in good condition and thawed correctly they shouldn't smell so bad.
I'm pretty sure that the length of time they have been frozen plays a big part in the condition they are in after thawing.
I think the bags of frozen reptile food, that my local pet shops buy from their distributers, should have date stamps on when they was 1st frozen.
I've told them that but they look at me like i am stupid LOL
Because i go there every week i get to notice their stock levels.
When i open the "new" bag (i always do if there's only a few left in the already open 1) they seem a better quality after thawing.
My snakes probably don't even notice the difference, they might think i'm stupid too lol
