Awww poor wee one! Hon, being a young mom sets you up for censure if you let it get to you but the fact is every one of us that's a mom face this stuff from others. Have a kid toss a fit in the grocery store and sorry to say no one is going "where is that child's father?", they always look to the mother, it's just part of our society. At some point we all have to do just our best and shrug off the "advice" of others if it's nothing but derogatory.

I had my first baby at 26 (so not a "young" mom) and my last at just shy of 40. I grew up in a large family full of babies and I did a heck of a lot of babysitting. This should have set me up to be the perfect mom right. Yay right! LOL Toddlers will give you grey hairs, you will forget what a private bathroom trip was all about and you become jumpier than a sniper on the roof hon. Something moves, you hear a funny sound, you are in "where's the baby???" mode.

My older son (whose survived thus far to almost age 16 without doing permanent damage to himself) before he was three had the following ever so fun trips to the ER....

- stitches to chin
- stitches in his head
- checked for concussion
- butterfly break to his lower leg

Believe me hon I wanted to bring in his two sisters and go "see they are okay, I'm a good mom, this boy is WILD!". He climbed before he could walk, had no concept of gravity and I literally ended up having to take him to the bathroom with me since he always did this stuff as soon as someone was taking a pee. Oh and he never crawled or toddled...he went from sitting on his butt to racing down the hallway. Apparently Luke's idea back then of how to put the brakes on was to find something hard enough to stop him *sigh*

My oldest daughter, Kayte. Lovely child, never gave me the fits her brother would one day. We're moving when she's in sixth grade, I send her to a neighbour to play and get out of my hair for a few hours. 10 minutes later I'm at a dead run to the neighbour's because she now has a very badly broken arm (yay for trampolines...grrrr). Ortho surgery and we moved with a kid in a still warm cast. Couple years later...she's in girls hockey...sports are good for kids right?. Well hello there Dr. Ortho man! They did do a lovely job reconstructing her left hand. *sigh*

One day my younger daughter asked me when it was her "turn" to have a cast. I still don't think she understood the look I gave her LOL!

I mention this honey just to illustrate that no matter what you do you can only do so much. You can set up their lives as safely as possible and of course you should but things do happen. We can't wrap them in cotton wool and in the end they recover much faster than our nerves ever do.

my two year old got her first stitches at 18 months she was running and tripped fell face first into the corner of our 55g tank and got 5 stitches on her forehead above her left eye

Further incidents in my extended family (just so you know this happens to everyone!)....

- niece fell while running, smacked right into the corner of the stone fireplace and her parents got to spend Xmas Eve in the ER department

- various family members with fishing hook extractions (we like to fish and apparently occasionally cast badly)

- little sister vs coffeetable edge

- nephew vs hot motorcycle exhaust pipe (and this was with at least 5 adults right there...kids are FAST!)

- various and sundry sports related accidents including a tree almost falling on me while playing goal tender

- bikes with failed brakes, snowmobiles with failed brakes, ever so slightly impaired driving of lawnmower (sort of a la George Jones), oh and dirtbikes don't climb trees (neither do skidoos but tell that to my brother Jim will ya! :eek: )

We're kind of like the Kennedy clan....well without the vast amounts of money and snooty accents that is. (but then they don't have our cool collection of dead animal heads that apparently in my extended family are a must have decorating accent for any cottage)

My poor granny, the matriarch of the family, would just shake her head, get out the bandaids and that awful stingy stuff, put on the tea and mutter to herself that none of us would be happy till we'd killed ourselves "deed" LOL

I just have to know how you are still alive! Judging by the pictures...if I would have walked around the corner and seen all that blood and my lil one in the middle I think I would have had a heart attack!!! That looks so scary! ok...well maybe not a heart attack but maybe I would have gone into shock! That is one of the things I fear most in my house is the kids and knives. The second being a fire.

I am glad she is doing well and so are you!

It's amazing really MeMe how your instincts just kick in. I've done the drive to the ER, one hand on the wheel, the other applying compression to that spurting head wound (darn but anything above the shoulders bleeds like a stuck pig!). I always find I'm okay during any emergency, then need a moment to quietly fall apart once I know things are under control or someone else in now in charge.
