I don't know if any of you have heard about this young boy and I am not positive why is he known nationwide. But he has been battling cancer since he was just 5 years old and he is about to turn 8 at the end of May. He wants to make it into the Guiness book of records for "receiving the most birthday cards." The current world record is around 350M cards set over a course of 17 years.

Here is a picture of him and some info about the situation.

There are a few gentlemen from CFB Petawawa that are campaigning to have a new category started which would be the most cards received over the course of a year.

Shane's personal goal right now is to reach 1 million for his birthday, May 30th.

At almost 5 years old Shane was diagnosed with ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA .After 1 month into the treatment he was in early remission, meaning there were no cancer cells in his blood. Shane's family was very pleased with the early results, but his protocol called for 130 weeks of treatment. Then on July 6th, 2006 Shane relapsed after completing 108 of the 130 weeks. It was a shock to everyone including his doctors. Shane may have to undergo a bone marrow transplant down the road, but the good thing is that his brother Jacob is a match. Presently, there is no sign of cancer in Shane's system since relapsing.
