Re: racks?
There are more than a few threads on racks....but...
Freedom Breeder
ARS Caging
Reptile Basics
Animal Plastics
Boaphile Plastics
HerpEnclosures
Nature's Spirit
Vision Racks
I know I'm missing a few. Personally I have all Reptile Basics racks and I couldn't be happier with them, but if money wasn't an object I'd switch over to all Freedom Breeder/ARS type steel frame racks for the sole reason of long standing durability...(although both can be purchased per level.)
I'm not sure of your definition of reasonable though...

I have several different brands but I am very happy with the price and versatility of the Visions.

Re: racks?
It was VERY easy, i made mine five 41qt tubs high. Cueball acctually helped talk me through it on the phone, and weighed the options of cost to product etc. i just used melamine, measured the length and width of the tubs then added about 2 inches to the measurements to have a little bit of "saftey" room. then screwed it together and ran some flexwatt and hooked it up to my helix. took me about 3 hours, and i had home depot make all my cuts (you just have to watch them to be sure they don't screw up . Hope that helps, let me know.

Re: racks?
I purchased my first large rack yesterday. Thanks to westcoastjungle for the tips and advice...
It is a cb-70 Vision rack that was very reasonably priced and I love the versatility of it. You can change the level height and convert one level into a hatchling level. Vision uses heat rope rather than flexwatt heat tape and you can run the heat rope horizontally or vertically along each level, which i think is pretty nice. Some will argue the quality of the rack because it is plastic. I can understand the argument, but i haven't received my rack yet so I can't really say much about its durability.
If you're willing to spend more, go for Freedom Breeder or ARS. Both are raved about by those who can afford it. It is expensive...it is quality.
Lets not forget about Rich at Reptile Basics and Rich at HerpEnclosures.com as well.
All of the above are suggestions you can't go wrong with. Do research on each company and find a rack that suits your needs and your budget.
As far as building your own, if you're good with measurements and comfortable with building your own, go for it. It's the most cost effective method..but it was a pain in my butt. I built a rack that could house 7 adults, but only 3 sorta work....waste of time and money..but it was a learning experience.
there are a few DIY's on this site that are very detailed and make for a great read
Good luck!

Re: racks?
Well, I built 2 of these. There is step by step instructions thanks to Bailey Reptiles. If you are a little handy you can save some money if you need to. It's not for everyone but I thought I would throw it at ya.
